Grandparents Day

Today is Grandparents Day.  I’m so thankful to have one of the best grandmas a girl could have.  My grandma is like: Maya Angelou, Martha Stewart and Suzie Orman all wrapped up in one.  She took me on my first trip when I was 6 weeks old. From that point we traveled every year, sometimes twice a year.

Whenever I’d come from grandmas house, I’d come home with a bag of goodies.  Till this day she sends me goodies.  Like last week, she sent me some cleaning rags cut from old tee shirts. They were neatly folded in a bag (something Martha would do). Gatorade for my daughter, yogurt for the baby, and a birthday card for me-me-me-meee.

Now, lately i’ve been acting like Martha Stewart.  Grandma has this thing she does with grocery bags. She takes plastic Aldi bags and folds them like a towel and she’ll take the ordinary plastic grocery store bag and smooth it out, fold once, then twice and tie it in a knot.  The first time I noticed her doing this, was when she came over a few months ago and reorganized under my kitchen sink. Every since then I’ve been folding twice and tieing once.

Since I was a child she’d always tell me to pay my bills.  “Don’t spend all your money.”  She’s  great with giving  financial advice.  That’s that, Suzie Orman resemblance.

The words of wisdom  that comes from her are like those of Maya Angelou.  I notice how she has impacted my life greatly.  Daily I notice myself implementing the things that she has taught me.  Growing up it all seemed irrelevant. Becoming an adult brings it all in prospective.

So today, I take this time to thank my grandma for all that she has done for me and my family.
