This is my first post disecting Nursery Rhymes. My husband always says that Nursery Rhymes shouldn’t be sang to kids. Eg. Rock abye baby on the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks the cradle will “Fall”? Doesn’t sound very comforting? Call DCFS somebody has just neglected a child in this Nursery Rhyme!
We thought that was something. Do you know the history of the song, Ring around the Rosy? It’s talking about a plague in the late 1400′s called the Black Plague. See http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm353697.html This is going to trip you out. Let me summarize it for you.
Ring around the Rosy…. This was the rash from the disease
Pocket full of Posey…. People thought if the had these flowers with them they’d be less likely to get the disease
Ashes Ashes…Atchoo Atchoo(sneezing) was a symptom as well
We all fall down….and die in other words
What the HELL(yeh I said it) is that all about? We’re singing these songs with our kids. So now i’m on the look out on finding out what all these other Rhymes are all about. What do you think?
