Is Natural the new Black?

scissors combWho would have thunk it!  The year 2009 and Afros, Dreads, Twist & Twist Outs are whats HOT!  Women are doing the BIG CHOP and DON”T GIVE A RELAXED HEADS,  what you think about it!

In 2000 after the birth of my son I began to have excessive hair loss.  I went brought a wig and had my husband cut off my hair (he’s a Barber).  My first plan of action was to wear the wig but while my husband was cutting, he was telling me how nice it looked (awww, he’s so sweet).  That’s all he had to say.  I never put the wig on and I’ve been natural ever since.

Within the past few months I decided to let it grow out.  I had thought of letting it dread but never wanted that committment.  Until the other day.  I woke up  and said to myself, “Self, you gon get some dreads.”  It was no spiritual experience, I didn’t pray about it or do any rituals.  I literally just woke up that morning and decided that was what I wanted to do.  Honestly, one reason was I couldn’t get a freakn comb through my head without shampooing or co washing it first.   So, this past Monday, that’s what I did.

Now, will everbody embrace the new Black?  Noooooo.  All who have, I have one thing to say.  “You look GOOOOD in Balck Black!”

Oh girl, You need to show a picture! I’ve been au naturale for about 10 years and I LOVE IT! I will never go back to perming my hair. I have dreads too but next year I may cut them off and wear a low bob. Maybe I’ll wear extensions just to change it up sometimes. I think that’s wonderful that as black women we are fiiinnnallly embracing our beautiful natural selves. For to long we thought our natural hair wasn’t beautiful. Great post :)

Some of my sudden decisions turned out to be my favorite ones, like having more kids! But… If you get tired of them…I’m not gonna volunteer to comb them out for you!!! I leaned that lesson!:)
