Mae C. Jemison
1956-
Mae C. Jemison is an Astronaut and Physician. Reading her biography there were some really cool things I found out. First her and my youngest daughter have the same birthday. She was also a Chicagoan like myself after moving here when she was 3 yrs old. Her family moved here to take advantage of the educational system.
I remember oh so well of the day she went into space on the Endeavor, On September 12, 1992. (I was 20 yrs old) Prior to her space venture in 1987, Jemison was the first African American woman ever admitted into the astronaut training program. Jemison believed that woman and other minority groups had a lot to contribute if given the chance to do so.
I consider Mae Jemison courageous and an exceptional role model to woman and the minority community. Her perseverance shows us that, if we believe, we can fly.
