When Nicole asked me to be a guest blogger on Motivational Mondays I
instantly thought of my weight loss.  I have been so motivated to lose
weight that there was no question about what subject I would focus on.

My weight has gone up and down for over 15 years, as I am sure so many of
you woman can understand and sympathize with.  In high school I gained
weight, then in college I went through a very healthy phase and was very
fit, then got a little too fit, if you catch my drift.  Then I moved in with
my husband, got engaged, and that was when things really took a turn for the
worst.  I was a heavy bride and was embarrassed in my bathing suit on our
honeymoon in Jamaica.  I then got pregnant and it has been a massive up and
down battle for over 4 years.

This past Fall things changed.  I was having dizzy spells, felt like I was
going to faint (which was very scary since my husband was in the ARMY and
away 180 days out of the year), was feeling sluggish, and having pains.
Even going down the stairs in the mornings was painful.

A Jenny Craig center is around the corner from our house.  I mean, I can see
the sign from my house.  I took it as a sign.  But it was a little out of
our price range to do a full year, which was what I really needed.  My
sister, who is also my best friend, knew how much I wanted, no, needed
this.  For Christmas she gave me a gift card for over half the yearly
package!

I went to the center 2 days after getting that card and made the decision to
change my life.  We decided on a healthy weight loss of 60 pounds.  It has
been three months since that day and I have lost 28 pounds.  I am almost
halfway to my goal!  Not to mention I am no longer carrying around the
weight of an entire kid all the time.

It has NOT been easy!  Especially at the beginning when a healthy day’s
calories was literally 1/3 less food than I was used to eating.  I was
hungry all the time.  And my weight loss took all the strength and
motivation I could find.

Where did that motivation come from?  Easy.  The 2 most important things in
my life, my 2 boys.  I was at such an unhealthy weight that I knew I would
not live as long as I could.  I didn’t have enough energy to keep up and
play with them.  I had to go to sleep early and could barely get up in the
morning.  I was hurting and not in the mood to really play the way my 2
little guys needed.

I had to think about my boys and all those things I didn’t want, and did
want in my life, every time I wanted to eat more than I should.  Every time
I almost subconsciously popped the grilled cheese crusts in my mouth I
thought about my health and my boys.  So often when I almost ate a 2nd, or
on a bad day, a 3rd brownie, I had to remind myself how important this goal
was for my future and my family’s future.

That is what motivated me to get in the center that day.  It wasn’t about
how I looked, but how I felt.  It wasn’t about who cared how much I had
gained, but how many years I could add to have with my boys.  It wasn’t
about wearing a bikini again, it was about being able to play with my boys
actively all day long.  And those motivating thoughts have carried me here,
to where I am now.  I am feeling good…and looking good too (I have to
admit that was a little motivator!).

better lives.

Those are the cutest kids!A wonderful motivation! You should be very proud of yourself. I became diabetic during my 3rd pregnancy and they put the brakes on me, so I really had to make some changes and I know how hard that can be. Great job!
