Words of Wisdom To: Mom Bloggers From: Phylicia Rashad

On Monday I shared with you that I would be in a conference call with other Mom Bloggers & Phylicia Rashad.  Tommorrow the movie Just Wright will be in movie theaters featuring, Common, Queen Latifah, Paula Patton & Phylicia Rashad. We had the opporunity to asked her questions in relation to the upcoming movie and parenting.
Growing up The Cosby Show was the NEW Model of the African American Family. Growing up in Chicago my role model was My mom and grand mom. When the T.V. show first aired, no matter what we were doing when the show came on we dropped everything. There were so many similarities as well as differences of my own life.

Similarities
Parents telling you like it T I Z (like it is)
Being threatened to Death ( I brought you in this world and I’ll take you OUT!)
Parents emphasizing to set my priorities on education (that went in one ear and out the other)

Differences
Growing up in a two parent household
Growing up with siblings
Growing up in a wealthy home

The reason I point out these similarities and differences is to show you my connection with the show. There was commonality as well as hope for my own future.

Phylicia Rashad shared some words of wisdom

Listen to conversation here

Hear from Common and Queen Latifah.

Be sure to leave any comments of the movie if you go to see it this weekend.

Enjoy

  1. My mother in law is just like Claire Huxtable! What a cool opportunity for you. We used to watch the Cosby Show every week when I was younger too.

  7. @Motpg, it tickles me to hear my own voice. If you noticed how quite the background was, it was because I’m sure we had all our phones on mute.lol to keep out background noise.

  9. Wow Nicole, it is so Awesome that you got to do that! I would have froze up and been afraid to talk. Good questions and I loved her answer to the first question you asked. Once again, something I needed to hear, so you got me again. She is such a Great Lady. We used to watch Cosby as a young couple to try to get parenting tips:)It sounds like a great movie but I’m most tickled that I got to hear your voice!:)

  10. I LOVED the Cosby Show growing up! It was one of those shows that the whole family could watch and that families made time for. With so many options out there now (and so many of them not good ones), that just doesn’t happen today.

I must be old, if I’m thinking back to the “good ol’ days”! ;0)
