I’m not gone cry! I’m not gone shed another tear!

I’ve been avoiding cutting up these onions for over a week.  I’ll cut a few, cry and then stop. Cut a few, cry and then stop. My husband said, ” make sure you cut up the onions before they go bad.”  I said, “I’ll do it today.” That was 4 days ago.  I asked all my friends on FaceBook did they know how I can cut up the onions without crying?  MJ from blog SugarMyBowl.com sent me a link to some Onion Goggles.  What? Onion Goggles!?  Yep Onion Goggles.

Needless to say, I still haven’t ordered them.

Last night Hubby and I had a discussion

Husband:You didn’t cut those onions.

Me:(give him the look)You do it.

Husband: I already know I’ma cry.I’ll cut, you put in the bag.

Me:OK (this is breezy)

2 min later
Husband:(tears in his eyes)why don’t you get a knife and help? Can you freeze onions whole?

Me:(thinking I’m sick of crying)No!

I have never seen such potent onions in my life!  Even after him cutting them all up, the fumes were so strong that even being upstairs in my bedroom, my eyes burned and filled with tears.  I had to get a cold towel to put over me & my youngest daughters eyes.  So, when I do order the Onion Goggles, I’m gonna have to get a pair for everyone in the family.

Mary can tell you how I feel.

I just read somewhere that if you chew gum while you chop, the saliva molecules in your mouth will somehow distract the onion from your eyes… I have yet to try it, but it’s worth a shot!

I’m so sensitive to onions, too! Although keeping them in the fridge before cutting does help a lot.

my granny used to peel off the skin and soak them in water first. not sure if it works. they don’t bother me, but I can’t stand the onion smell on my fingers so I avoid cutting them for that reason.

I refuse to cut onions for this very reason. I will buy onion powder, frozen onions, whatever I can to avoid it. Now that I’m married, my husband cuts them for me. I feel your pain!
