Hairmestic Violence

Are you being abused? Nowadays, when you go to the ER, someone will come in and ask are you suffering any abuse. They’ll give you a card to use in the future or to give to someone you may know.

What does this have to do with your hair? I’m glad you asked. I’m Nicole and I’ll be your advocate. Being in the hair industry, I’m so disturbed how many women allow someone to abuse their hair.

Do you know you are being abused? I’ve come to realize, maybe they don’t know they’re being treated badly.

How to recognize abuse? If your hair is in the same state(not healthy) it was in when, you began your relationship? It’s time to re-evaluate the relationship.

Am I enabling my abuser? Are you asking for a Relaxer or chemical service often? If so, you’re an en abler. Will you not allow your stylist to trim your ends when needed? That’s a form of co dependency. You’re depending on your stylist to do what’s not right, for your hair.

Who is the abuser? You may not visit a stylist. You may be self inflicting pain.

How to get out of an abusive relationship? Find a professional that will treat your hair like it’s their own. You have friends, you’ve seen women with healthy hair. Ask for referrals. You don’t have to live like this any longer. Seek help now before it’s too late.

We all go through those phases. Especially in winter/cooler months.

lol – very cute post :) Hi, My name is Daria and I am a neglector. I neglect my hair and put a baseball cap on it. I may even be a chronic abuser as I usually don’t do anything with my hair for 6mo to a year and then chop it all off and start the cycle over again.

    :)

My husband is a Barber i’m sure he’d say yes if he had to fix it. Otherwise, if you’re doing a great job… No one will ever know it’s a self inflected wound. lol

You are right! One must not let just anyone get near our hair. It took 10 years of abuse before I finally found someone who took care of me the way I should be cared for!

Oh, you already know i am a self abuser ; ). And I bought some of my weapon of choice the other day but I haven’t used it. I’m thinking of kicking the habit and going hair naked. You would be ‘tsk’-ing if you saw the state of my ends right now but I promise I won’t try to trim them myself!

Well, I’ve endured hair abuse before, but I am not allowing it to currently be abused. It took some rocky relationships, but I’m finally paired with a hairstylist who has a healthy respect for my hair! ;) Cute post!

Having a stylist in the family is a plus. I always tell people as long as you make sure a professional trims your ends on a regular basis & don’t overlap relaxer. You should be good.

I’ve been relaxing my own hair for over 20 years (I wanted to learn Cosmetology but never went). I’ve learned some pretty good techniques a long the way. I will however go and get my hair cut every now and then. Plus, my daughter is a Cosmetologist so that helps.
