My husband has went out of control with gardening and it’s just the beginning of Spring. I think he’s trying to live through our youngest with this gardening thing. He made her a square-foot garden of her very own.
Hubby did all the heavy lifting and I did the design work. I made garden stakes for her little garden.
Yesterday I went to the dollar store in search of some items to make garden stakes for her and my husband’s garden. I knew I was picking up popsicle sticks, but wasn’t sure what else.
So, I picked up the popsicle sticks, foam craft squares, cable ties and flyswatters. I hate flyswatters because they’re gross when used for their original purpose. But these flyswatters were CUTE! They were butterflies and other cute insects that came in a pack of two. I thought these will be good garden stakes! I’ll punch holes at the ends of the popsicle sticks and secure them to the flyswatters. But how was I going to secure them? I roamed the aisles and remembered the colorful cable ties.
I used the cable ties to attach the popsicle stick and wrote on them with a permanent marker the type of plant.
All of the others I cut off the ends of the ties after they were secured, but this one. I wanted it to look like an actual bug.
She had a ball planting in her garden. She planted lettuce, swiss chard and watermelons. Trust me… she will only eat the watermelons. We were trying to find things she will actually eat. Eventually we’ll plant her some strawberries.
She also transplanted some lettuce in a bag that we planted in the house a few weeks ago.
Here’s a peak at the stakes I started for my husband.
Hope you had a great weekend.
