The kids have been on winter break for two weeks and so far today it’s been extended a day. We’re under severe weather advisory until 12 pm tomorrow with our wind chill -42. Hopefully our school district extends it one more day and if not….I’ll extend it myself.
With weather like this I really wanted to make some Oxtail Soup…. but… when I went grocery shopping -___- I just didn’t feel like spending $10 bucks per pack of oxtail. Now, I kind of regret it. Ya’ll know I’ve been working this gravy thing. So, I decided to make some smothered chicken with a pack of that Goya beans and rice. Keeping it a little simple. I baked some chicken thighs the day before and I couldn’t think of parting with all the chicken stock that it produced. I put it up for the following day to make my gravy.
Also with the weather like this I’ve been getting my craft on. I made a Valentines banner and began decorating for Valentines Day. Many of you may think I’m crazy, but when you really enjoy decorating you usually decorate ahead of time and take it down early as well to get ready for the next reason to decorate. I have some red accents in my décor, but I have very few Valentines decorations. I’m also a girl that loves decorating on a budget so I’ll repurpose and remix before I purchase something new. I try my best to live by this, but a Big Ole But! Sometimes I don’t and I end up with many extra accessories. I’m considering spray painting the candlesticks on top of the hutch and the birdcage.
Here’s what I’ve done so far with my “New to Me” hutch. I told my hubby I wanted a hutch and within a week he found one at our local Goodwill. Score!!! I haven’t painted it yet because I have no idea what color to paint it. I’m not a white furniture kind of girl, but I did see a paint color on the Nate Berkus show the other day that grabbed me. It was smokey brown. I’m in the process of doing my daughter’s room so this will have to wait.
Overall the hutch is in great shape with the exception of a few areas. I house my vintage Corningware and Pyrex in here and it holds things really well. That’s what happens when you have a whole lot of STUFF.
Hope you all are staying safe and warm. What’s your weather like?
