(Video Tutorial) DIY Framed Chalkboard

If you’ve been following me for anytime now you know I have a thing for chalkboard art, chalkboard labels, chalk paint etc. When redoing my craft studio I wanted to add a piece to my gallery wall that would allow me to change it with seasonal art and what better way to do that than by adding a framed chalkboard to the space.

This is a simple project, cost very little and you may have majority of these items on hand.Watch Video Here

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Frame – I picked up mine from the thrift store. You can find a frame that’s intricate or simple. Cheap or expensive.

1 Piece of Chalkboard– to fit your frame.I had mine cut at Home Depot after I measured my frame. My original idea was to get a piece of MDF and paint it with chalkboard paint. However, Home Depot had a piece of chalkboard already painted, this made my work easier.

Picture Hangers – of your choice. If your frame doesn’t  already have one and if it does you won’t need an of these.

Hooks – to hang on wall to hang your pictures.I use bulldog hooks.

Hammer

Nails – small finishing nails or stapler with long staples

Let’s Put it Together

Step 1

We’re going to begin by adding your picture hanger to your frame if your frame doesn’t have one already.First, find the middle of your frame by measuring the width of your frame. The center of your frame and the center of you picture hanger should meet and hammer nails in place.

Step 2

Next, flip frame over and lay in the chalkboard. To keep chalkboard in place you can use a staple and staple gun, but I’m using small finishing nails. Hammer them in partially and then bend them by hammering them down to secure chalkboard in frame.

That’s IT!

Lastly, add your art and hang it in the spot of your choice.

5 Uses for Chalkboard Labels and STUFF

One of the things that draws my attention while out shopping and will get me to by it for a dolla… chalkboard anything!  Anything!  Chalkboard labels, tags, boards, paint, markers, paper and the list will go on.  They make them and I’ll buy them.

wp-image-572790568jpg.jpeg

What I love most about chalkboard stuff is that they are multifaceted.  You can use them in so many ways and continue to think of more ways to use them.  I’d like to share with you 5 uses for all things chalkboard.

Labeling Stuff: Well, duh.  Let’s not just label the ordinary things, let’s label those things that we didn’t think to label.  We’ve all added labels to our spice jars, but let’s not forget to label those containers that we can’t see in.  Not everyone in our home knows where the sugar is or the rice that’s stored in the non-translucent containers. So, let’s label them.

Give a Cohesive Look To The Non- Cohesive:  Let’s say you have some mix match bottles or containers that’re located in the kitchen on the counter.  In order to bring these items that don’t look like the other together, add chalkboard labels and voila they’re now intransigent.

Scriptures or Quotes:  Looking to add some inspiration or encouragement to a space?  Add some chalkboard signs with your favorite scriptures or quotes.

Of course this sign is on a massive scale, but you can go as small or large as you’d like.

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner Parties: Having a party or friends over for lunch?  Knowing that I’m a bit bias on the chalkboard stuff, but they add the cutest touch.

Paint Something With Chalkboard Paint: Want to get creative?  Paint a wall, desk, jar or whatever floats your boat with chalkboard paint.  Adds a creative element to any space in your home or office.

Are you into chalkboard labels, tags, boards or paint too?  If so, what do you like using chalkboard labels for?  Hope I’ve given you some ways to use them or sparked your creativity or interest when it comes to these functional labels.  These things are so fun to use , but like I said before I’m a bit bias when it comes to anything chalkboard.

Fun N’ Play Potting Bench

Recently I participated in a YouTube collaboration ‘Look For Less-Summer 2016’. The collaboration was hosted by Jaime, from the YouTube channel Bored or Bananas and Jaime asked us to use an inspiration piece and create that look for less.

Well. we had some wood laying around that was found roadside that was more than likely scraps form someone’s project. I found an inspiration piece on PARENTS.COM and this is what we came up with.
