Thanksgiving Dinner 2014

Today was the four of us eating thanksgiving dinner without our oldest.  I cooked mustard greens,  macaroni and cheese,  Cornish hens and dressing.   Pretty much our usual for the holiday.

After a meal like this,  it’s time to curl up on the couch with the family and sleep watch a movie.

Hope you enjoyed spending time with your family on today.  What was on your thanksgiving menu today?

Thanksgiving Eve Pics Brought To You By The Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Verizon Wireless Mom Voices Disclosure

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and I hope you’re enjoying time with your family this holiday.

The new camera my husband bought me for an early Christmas gift, I decided to keep it. I’ve been playing around a lot with it in the kitchen and trying to get the hang of it. However, in the meantime…. I enjoy grabbing my phone to take quick, convenient and quality photos. It allows me to upload them to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter quicker. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is excellent for that. The photos are crisp, editable and I don’t miss out on opportune moments.

Opportune Moments
I spent my day cooking because I enjoy relaxing on the holiday if, I’m not hosting. My mom makes her famous potato salad when she comes over and this stuff should be in someone’s store! Delicious! No matter how hard I try…. I can’t get close to her potato salad.

This morning I made Penne & Cheese with Shrimp & a separate batch for my youngest daughter since she’s allergic to shrimp. Along with that I cooked Mustard Greens, Cornish Hens & Cornbread Dressing.

Cornbread

I knew I had sage in the cabinet

But not this much LOL

The dressing turned out fantastic! I cooked a total of 5 Cornish Hens and stuffed 2 at the request of my son.

It’s not Thanksgiving Day yet and this is what happened.

Remind me to never allow them to taste test. My mother said, “you may need to make more dressing. ”

Can’t wait to enjoy the dressing with some cranberry sauce tomorrow. Which cranberry sauce do you prefer?

image

1. Are you the new school can jellied cranberry sauce?
2. The canned with actual cranberries in it?
3. Or old school, traditional and home made kind of cranberry sauce?

I’m the new school can jellied with not a cranberry to be seen, kinda girl.

He’s Baaaaaaack!
Lastly, you know last year I jumped on the Elf on the Shelf bandwagon.

Since the tradition is new in our home I decided that Roger will return the night before Thanksgiving.

Heeeeerrrrrreeeee’s, ROGER! Jala will be so happy to see him in the morning. Let the elfing foolery begin.

How did you spend your Thanksgiving Eve?

How to prepare your holiday dinner successfully with the five W’s

Count down has begun for those of us preparing for the holiday and there’s nothing like not being prepared or getting a late start to throw us into a chaotic tantrum.

Here are 5 ways using the five W’s to make it a success

Where will you and your family have dinner this year?  Will it be at home or over family/friends?  knowing ahead of time where you’re having dinner will help you prepare accordingly.

Who‘s coming to dinner or who’s going?  If you’re hosting dinner this year how many guest will you be having?  Make sure to prepare enough food for leftovers, take home and any extra guest that you weren’t expecting.  Now, if you’re heading out over to family/friends for the holiday, ask the hostess what will they like you to bring.  If they say, “nothing”.  Take a hostess gift of your choice.

What are you cooking for dinner?  Hopefully you have prepared your menu and if you haven’t, it’s never too late.  Create your menu, list all the ingredients and items needed for each dish.  After you have created that list, check to see which ingredients you have in-stock and those you don’t, create a list to pick up from the grocery store.

When are you cooking and when will you have dinner?  There are many items on my Thanks Giving menu that I prepare ahead of time and a few items I prepare the day of.  My reason for that is because I hate being in the kitchen all day.  I rather prepare majority of my dishes the night before.

During the summer holidays when we get together with family, there are many times we have to get together the day before the holiday or the week before due to some of our schedules.  Set those dates in advance and make sure all family members are notified.

Last, but most importantly, why are you celebrating?  As we give thanks let’s remember to continue giving thanks when the holiday has passed.  We all have so much to be thankful for.  In spite of the economy or what may be going on in our personal lives, we can all make a never ending list of what we’re thankful for.  Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday and you find this helpful.
