Whew! Have you ever wondered which Christmas gift would be your child’s favorite? Did you ever wonder if that gift would cause any damage to your home? Well, I knew little Miss Baby Alive would be my daughter’s fave. I guess the feeding, peeing, changing pampers and all the chatter gave it away. Not to mention, we brought her an extra pair off clothes and she’s been naked since Christmas day. However, I didn’t plan on little Miss Baby Alive taking away from our household budget but, buying extra diapers, baby food and the overuse of toilet tissue, began to put a damper on our household budget. I made sure we brought extras, but the fascination of feeding this baby and seeing her poop, excited my daughter just a bit much. The only way to cut down on the extra expenses were to have a discussion with our daughter on taking motherhood to far. Dialogue: So, my husband and I were like, “stop feeding her!” And little Miss Baby Alive was like, “Mommy I’m hungry.” Then my daughter was like, “but she’s hungry.” so she fed her again and again and again and again. (So, I hid the baby food) Then little [...]

Monday was my baby girl’s 4th birthday. We took her to Chuck E Cheese on Sunday to celebrate. As we were leaving I noticed her a bit hyper than usual. Then I realized that she had a sugar high from the cotton candy. Don’t judge me and I promise not to judge the Mamas that continue to bring their kids there with no socks on. Or that don’t monitor their kids to make sure they don’t take their socks off in the jungle gym thingy. Instead I’ll just snatch my child away rolling my eyes and thinking….stupid mama! Overall we wanted to make sure she knew it was her day. NicoleNicole is a wife, mother of 3, CEO & hairstylist living in Suburban Illinois.
Just some random pics I wanted to share. 1. My oldest daughter and my dad has this battle of who’s the tallest. My daughter has officially passed him up. He has on shoes in this pic and my daughter doesn’t. He’s 6’1 1/4. We’re thinking she’s atleast 6’2 1/2. Everytime she’s measured at the doctor they’re way off! They measured me at 5’7 and I’m atleast 5’10. Don’t know what’s up with that. 2, 3 & 4.my youngest daughter and oldest daughter making pizza. I’m sure you know who’s I’m charge. 5. Was a pic taking outside yesterday of my daughter while we were outside picking weeds. 6. A fairy I have in my yard. 7.My daughter came to me yesterday with this flower she picked out of the yard. I asked where did she get it from because I planted a flower similar to it about 4 years ago and it didn’t return. She showed me where she picked it. It was growing in the middle of her play area. Nowhere near, where I planted it. If my memory serves me correct, I think its a cardinal. It’s suppose to do well in moist areas. I think I’m going [...]

Our family pets or should I say, “pet”. I’m sure you’re saying, “awwwww….how cute.”LOL However, this is a story that will take a twist…just wait! A couple months ago I felt the urge to spend my money on my ungrateful kids. I thought they could use someone else to talk to and when they needed a time out from getting on each other nerves a pet would be a great buffer. Since a dog was out of the question I decided to get them each a hermit crab. My son’s crab was huge and within the guarantee period he died. We took him back and they gave us another one. My daughter’s crab was little, just like her. She even named her after herself. So, the crabs name was Jala (along with every doll & stuffed animal she owns is named after her). Her crab didn’t die…….during the guarantee period……..she died last month. My son realized it while my daughter was sleep. The next day we didn’t say anything. Or the next. Or the next. Today, she still doesn’t know. She thinks it’s hiding in my son’s crab’s larger shell. Because that’s what she did. Hide in the large shell. [...]

If you’re like any other family with a young child in the house, you may receive frequent visits from a little girl. This isn’t an ordinary little girl. The reason I say that, often times I don’t know she’s here until I get ready to sit down and I’m stopped in mid air by a little girl yelling, “DON’T SIT THERE! YOU’LL SIT ON DORA!” So when I was given the opportunity to review Dora’s ballet adventure, I said, “bring it on!” Well not exactly in those words. However, I knew my baby girl would LOVE IT!
Ya heard?! Thank you Jesus!!!!!!! Do you sense the excitement in my post? Of course you don’t. This week my kids will return to School. My oldest is a senior (I’m getting teary eyed). My son is in 5th grade & this year he didn’t have to go to summer school to pass. I’m just excited to get back in the swing of things. If all works as planned (unless I regress to my teenage rebellion), me myself and I will return to School in October! How the hell did that happen?!!!!!!!! I’m still trying to figure this one out! Cause after I finally got my Good Enough Diploma (GED), with the exception of Cosmetology School, I vowed to Neva!!!! Set my behind in another class chair again. However, I’ve changed. I think (wink). I’m also scared. Yep scared. I just said, “God, if you want me to go….please make a way. If you don’t I’ll make like I’m in highschool and ditch my dream :-/”.
Who’s Ya Grandma?! My daughter asks me everytime we make pancakes. Daughter:(pointing to the picture of Aunt Jemima on the pancake box or syrup) Is this grandma? Me: Which grandma? (Because she has a grandma & a great grandma) Daughter: (will say my mom’s whole name) Me: No. Daughter: (then she’ll say my grandma’s whole name) Me: No. And again today. We’re making pancakes and she gets the syrup out and ask the famous question. Daughter: Is this my grandma? Me: That ain’t my mama! So, to all my childhood friends including myself that loved cracking this joke. “Ain’t ya mama on the pancake box?” Nope, but I see why you ask because my daughter thinks she looks like her grandmother.
As my daughter continues to count down the days until her 17th birthday I can’t help to rejoice on how far God has brought us. I was over hearing her, my husband and son talk about all of her challenges and how they helped her be who she is today. Often times when we’re talked about and looked down on, we never think of the positive impact it can have if we persevere and not allow it to penetrate our heart (the core of who we really are). I wrote a post before on the reaction my daughter received when she returned to school this past school year. From the age of 6 my daughter struggled with her weight….. Of course we would watch what she ate and make sure we all ate the same way, but I think my daughter’s main problem was not enough exercise. Up until she was 5 yrs old we lived in the city. The public school she attended had gym and recess, but I don’t remember them changing for gym. I also think there was a time that the didn’t have gym at all. When she was about 8yrs old we moved to the [...]

We’ve been having some HOT weather here in Chicago. Today we’re experincing rain and some flooding on our streets. Last night we woke up to severe thunderstorms and the wind was so high that we felt the need to wake up the kids at 3am and head down stairs. I don’t know if I told you that my kids talk a LOT!!!!! They get it from their dad, he doesn’t think so :-/ I know so! So, when we get every body downstairs, my son is talking like it’s 12 in the afternoon, my oldest is on her cellphone. Yes, at 3am in the morning talking to her BFF!!!!!!! My youngest daughter is talking about her dreams! We couldn’t wait until 3:30am to put them back in the bed! The storm was so severe that we kept our son home on his last day of school. I picked up his report card when the rain slowed down and here’s what most of our streets looked like. The picture above is our street. As I drove to his school this is what the other streets looked like. If this is all we get, we’re blessed! Compared to what the rest of our world is [...]

her shoes are on the wrong feet This picture was taking a year ago when my daughter was 2. I can’t believe how much she has grown physically & with her development. She is a character all by herself. The words that come out of her mouth make us take a second look at times. I remember when she was barely talking & she told my oldest daughter that she had an attitude. My husband & kids had to look to see if it had actually came out her mouth. There are some phrases I wish she didn’t know like, “what the hell?” Oops…. That’s my fault! Since I try my best not to curse I may say hell to get my point across. Don’t judge me! Or, “idiot!” Oops again. I say that when I’m driving. That’s better than teaching her about the middle finger, right? OK. Maybe not, but I’m not perfect. Cut me off and that may be the words you hear coming out of my mouth (in my Chris Tucker voice). Trust me I’ve come along way. My oldest daughter had another choice word. If she dropped her bottle she would say, “SHIT!(In her little baby [...]

I need a bigger pencil Yesterday a few minutes into doing homework. My son says, “I need a bigger pencil”. He came in the kitchen and opened his hand. There it was. You would think this pencil has been around some years? Nope! What kind of life did it live? What color was he? I do remember him being a camouflaged print. Less than a month ago he was tall, dark & handsome. Now he’s a war victim. So, he goes into my area & finds a pencil twice its size & two sided. Yep. Two sided. He was sharpened at both ends. You know what else he found? This small plastic tube the size of the it ty bit ty pencil that housed my new Cricut needle. He put the it ty bit ty pencil in it to keep up with it, he calls it “The World’s Smallest Pencil”. If that little sucka could fit in our pencil sharpener, you better believe he would sharpen it some more. Making it “The World’s Disappearing Pencil”. I’m sure you’re wondering how can I be a mom and not have the proper school supply for my children? Its one of those things………The [...]

I’ll find out in a minute if I’m smarter than a fourth grader. Today I’m participating in Junior Achievement at my son’s school. Parents volunteer to teach the students from the Junior Achievement curriculum. My son is in the fourth grade, so, his curriculum is about starting your own business. This is a great way to allow the kids to expand their knowledge and allow them to continue to dream about their future. Check out www.ja.org to get more information and see how to bring this program to your community if it’s not already in place. Does your child’s school participate in Junior Achievement or any other programs? If so, do you volunteer?
For many years I’ve had mixed feelings about having my tubes tied. After having my last child, I knew I didn’t want anymore kids but never did anything to make sure of it. The reasons for my mixed feeling weren’t due to religious beliefs. It was more of a woman thang! Although, I didn’t want to have more, knowing I could, was what mattered to me. Kind of felt that if I had them tied I would have been spaded like a cat. (shrug shoulders) My husband and I would talk about it and I’ve even asked him to get fixed. After all, I’ve given birth to three freaking kids and endured a whole lot of pain and the least you can do is take a little snip here and there! That didn’t work. Sometimes I wish I could perform the procedure on him myself. Oops. Did I say that out loud? However as of late, I know I don’t want anymore children. My youngest is already 3 and again if I have another child, they would be spread far apart in age, again! If, I would have had them all close together, I would have loved to have at the most 5 children.
