3 Things I’ve Learned From My Daughter Taking Swim Lessons

When my kids play sports, I tend to learn a lot about myself. The good, the bad and my inconsistencies. My youngest has been swimming now for a little over a year and the first thing I learned about myself when she began swimming…
1.An old dog doesn’t want to learn new tricks.

My sweet mother attempted to give me swim lessons at our local YMCA when I was a little girl. After the first day of lessons and a horrifying water going up my nostrils experience, I quit!Stick a fork in me because this shriveled up girl was DONE!I told my daughter about my life shaking experience and she’s convinced that I should either take swim lesson or she would teach me herself. We’re all familiar with the saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Well, this old dog doesn’t want to learn new tricks!I was done the day I took one leap out of that pool to exit and I’m still done today.

2.I have helicopter mom tendencies.

Really don’t think there’s any explaining with this one.If you’re not helicoptermomish…your kids are the one’s I see running around the grocery store without supervision ūüėČ

3.Don’t beat myself up over what I didn’t do with my older kids.
It’s easy to get stuck in the regret of what I didn’t allow my older kids to learn. What’s done is done and what they were able to learn and participate in, was sufficient. Next.

Scripture of The Week: Proverbs 21:9 – Are you a quarrelsome wife?

Lord, the man you gave me made me do it….. is what I’d love to say after trying to make my argument with my husband. ¬†The past few weeks I’ve been working on zipping my lips. ¬†I really need help with zipping my lips and how to respond non argumentative. The main reason meditating and breathing God’s word is a must in my life.

Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

proverbs 21 9

Do you have trouble zipping your lips or responding appropriately to your spouse? ¬†Let’s work on this together and see the Lord work in our mind’s, heart’s and mouth’s.

What’s in Our Picnic Basket #LoveandMarriage

My husband and I had it all planned out. Drop the kids off at Vacation Bible School and head over to the park for a little quality time together for a picnic. As soon as we dropped the kids off it began to pour down raining. This  lead us to putting our creative skills to work.   Head home and enjoy our picnic on the Living Room floor.

We were determined to have a picnic. LOL

Marriage & The Family: Dealing with Life’s Disappointments

There’s Joy in the Midst of Disappointment

Hearing my kids laugh these days brings me unspeakable joy.  Playing a video game together or alone, watching Vine videos or laughing at each other, are the things that make my kids Laugh Out Loud.  Actually, Roll on the Floor Laughing.

Focus on the Good

Who doesn’t enjoy hearing their children laugh? ¬†Of course we all enjoy hearing them laugh, but sometimes I tend to take those things for granted. ¬†I take many things for granted. Many. MANY. ¬†But when you get a whack upside the head with¬†life’s disappointments, you begin to draw from the unspeakable joys in your life. ¬†You know those things we take for granted and don’t speak of? Yeah, that. ¬†Sounds a bit cliche, but what better way, to not focus on all that’s going wrong in our life¬†and to focus on the good God is allowing us to experience in the those times of disappointment.

Draw Close to God & Relearn

These past few years, my life has taken some twists and turns that I didn’t expect and I surely didn’t see¬†them¬†coming. ¬†After I balled my eyes out, felt sorry for myself, nearly broke into pieces…. well, I think I did break into pieces. ¬†Tiny bits and pieces. ¬†I had to draw closer to the One that knows me and loves me more than my difficulties, than my circumstances, than my let downs and broken dreams. ¬†I had to seek God to relearn His will and purpose for my life. ¬†Yep, I had to relearn. ¬†Sometimes you can get knocked down so hard that you’ll forget your own name. ¬†Forget your purpose. Forget everything God has pulled you out of and know that He’s able to do it again. ¬†And He will.

After recognizing that there’s joy in the midst of disappointment when we focus on the good that is continuing to take place in our life. ¬†Drawing closer to God will help give us the direction we need in this season. ¬†This will allow us to see the vision God is trying to show or restore in us and what he’s trying to teach us. ¬†There’s always something to learn and we need to continue to learn from the true Teacher. ¬†He loves us and wants us to know the will He has for our life. ¬†Let Him show us in the thick of our disappointments.

What’s In My Daughter’s Swim Bag

This week my youngest will begin swim lessons at a nearby swim school.  Sadly, in our family my husband is the only one that knows how to swim.  My two oldest can barley swim which to me counts for not being able to swim.

The swim school she’ll attend has swimming lessons all year round and I’m excited about that because it will help her become a strong swimmer. ¬†While making sure she had everything she needs for swim class I think I threw in everything, but the kitchen sink. ¬†In the video below I’ll share everything she has in her bag. ¬†If you think I left anything out be sure to let me know in the comments below.
