Ever since I first layed my eyes on a Hibiscus plant, I was in awe of its beauty. Being able to capture, preserve its gorgeousness and place it in my hair would make my day. On a another note, right next to this flower is a tree. A tree that leaves have began to start changing color. The other day while looking out the window I noticed a branch with yellow leaves. If the recent cool mornings and cool nights weren’t noticable signs….this branch with discolored leaves has definitely caught my attention. As we begin our week take a look around. Notice the changes that are about to take place as the season begins to change and the beauty in the details. Praying that everyone is safe from hurricane Irene. NicoleNicole is a wife, mother of 3, CEO & hairstylist living in Suburban Illinois.
Most of us have an inner circle and effective inner circles are smaller than our wedding band. Well for me it is. These are the people we go to for support, guidance and sometimes we’re just looking for a sounding board. Even with many of us spending a lot of time on Facebook, those 300, 400 or which ever number we’ve reached on our friends list, is not our inner circle. The reason I mention that is because I hear so many people complaining about friend statuses being to happy or not keeping it “real”. Which is absolutely ridiculous! I think those are the people that know were to take their serious issues. To their inner circle. The blogging community has become one of the ways to go beyond our inner circle. Does that mean that someone from the blogging community won’t become apart of our inner circle? No. However, we all know building relationships are a process and if that’s what it leads to, then enter into the inner circle. Honestly, most of the time our inner circle is, Just. Like. Us. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with us, but there’s only so much we can get from us. Do you ever feel [...]

Puzzle As of recently I found out that my youngest daughter likes putting together puzzles. I also found out that I enjoy putting them together too. While putting together this puzzle I had a light bulb moment. Now, I’m sure I already knew this but sometimes my light gets dim and it takes some time before it brightens again. Back to my moment. I began to think about my life. You know how when we have certain pieces of our life put together oh so nicely? But over here……there’s these missing pieces. Those pieces we can’t seem to figure out. I began to use a specific pattern when putting puzzles together. I’d start putting together all the outer pieces first. Once my outer pieces are in place, I begin to fill in the inner parts of the puzzle. I’m sure there are many ways to do it. However, the ultimate goal is completing the puzzle. Many of us had career or family goals. The dream/vision is the complete puzzle. In order to bring that dream/vision to pass, we must begin to fit the pieces together. I know I’ve tried to put pieces in the wrong spot. Sometimes they were a [...]

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Last week was a bit busy & I hope this week is as well. My daughter’s team has made it to the Super Sectionals. This is another crucial game which will determine the final 4 teams that go down state to play in the Illinois Championship. Last year they placed 2nd in the state. I think we are beyond excited over here! Seriously! I spent this weekend making banners for the team & one for my daughter. My husband says I’m a groupie. LOL I can live with that. This is the team poster. I got a bit creative on this one. My daughter gave me one of her old jerseys. I split it in half and glued it to the board. If you look at the bottom left, you’ll see that I attached a basketball net to the board & on the far right I laced up some shoestrings. Here is the one I made for my daughter. To cap everything off, I went and brought some window paint to put on Hubby’s truck. We representing! So, tommorow is the day and I hope to post some good news soon.
Repost (I posted this post last year on Martin Luther King Birthday. Reflecting) I’m here to celebrate on this National Holiday. Today we celebrate the Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. An African American man that I’m proud to celebrate on today. A man that had a dream. A dream that he, himself would not live to see. Even in knowing he would not live to see his dream fulfilled… He still had the motivation to dream. What is a Dream? There are a few definitions for the word. This is the definition I will like to share…… Dream: An involuntary vision occurring to someone while awake. Involuntary? This definition was so profound to me because it’s saying even though I’m awake and I have voluntary control of all bodily functions. Something involuntary can take place. Could that be why children will change who they want to be when they grow up atleast 50 times. If we look back in time. Look at the circumstances, the depression, oppression and the bleak possibility of any dream coming true. A dream so enormous! A dream that appeared to be unreachable. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was involuntarily motivated to dream the impossible. Dr. [...]

I have began a mental count down in my head and I’m so excited to be able to begin a New Year. It’s so funny, I recently realized I may have Compulsive Calendar Disorder. A few weeks ago I began to set my calendar dates for next year. It was extremely hard for me to focus because my calendar ends in June. It begins in July & ends June of the following year. For some reason in order for me to focus and set things in order, I had to get a new calendar that begins in January. I know, weird! Last month I wrote a post, It’s that time again! Writing goals for next year. I believe as well as it’s important to write goals, we should re-evaluate ourselves as well. There are some areas we can all use some work and analyzing helps us to be true to who we really are. Also, this past week I began setting my editorial calendar & focusing on making 2011 a wonderful year. Now, I’m ready to go toe to toe with 2011! Just so happen I read a post from Desiree of Mommy Reporter, How to create and use an editorial calendar. [...]

Menu Bar B Que Turkey Greens Dressing (Cranberry Sauce) Macaroni & Cheese Sweet Potato Pie Keeping it simple. I love simple on the Holiday. What’s on your Holiday menu? What can I do with a hour? Sleep Do some house work Put away laundry Stay up so late that the hour didn’t even matter Trick the kids into thinking it’s still the regular time If I really think about it, one hour is enough time to get something done. What? Who knows but something can definately get accomplished in a hour. However, if I look at it from a metaphoric view. I’d say I don’t want to fall back into an old habit of mine. I know I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. Or tooting my horn a bit too early so to speak. But this past week I’ve been taking care of business when laundry is concerned. Don’t judge me! Before last week I would do laundry & let it sit and sit and sit and sit…………………………………….. Trying to escape the fact that at some point this stuff needs to be in its proper place. Ha! Last week I was on a roll! Every time I completed one load of laundry, I took it straight to our rooms and put it away. Every day!!!! I have grown out of free Word press Themes. Those of you that have been following me since the beginning, have seen me change my blog theme a few times or more. And if I was a techy kind of Mama?! I would change my blog with the weather. I do that with my house too. It’s called A D D, Attention Decorating Disorder. That kind of disorder runs into many areas of my life. I’ll get tired of my couch being on one wall. So, I’ll move it to the other wall. I’ll get tired of a picture being in the Livingroom. So, I’ll move it into another room. The reason I have come to this conclusion is because I’ve been considering resuscitating my hair blog. While contemplating on pulling the plug or bringing this bloggy back to life, I’ve been perusing the free Word press themes. Lemme tell you! It has been down right depressing!
This weekend has been pretty smooth. However, we encountered a few incidents that I hope can help my kids make wise choices. Be careful of false leaders While at my sons flag football game I saw the most immature adults! The coaches were yelling, cursing & just minutes away from fighting. The entire game appeared to me like organized recess. All you would hear is, “PAY ATTENTION! TIE YOUR SHOE!” and a whole lot of words I couldn’t quite hear. At one point I see a parent go on the field & him and the coach began to argue. The coach kicked his child out of the game & there they stood in the middle of the football field cursing. When the game was over my son left the field upset. I thought he was upset because all of the arguing. He was upset that they lost & said the Ref cheated. I had to explain to him, to not be upset about losing or cheating. On the other hand, look at the actions of the adults around him. People cheat all the time and we lose more than we would like in our lifetime. People get no where when they cheat [...]

Today was my daughter last AAU Basketball tournament. The event was 30 miles or more from our house & we were going to be there from 7:30 am until 7pm. A very long day! But….WAIT…. That’s not too bad if your just traveling with your teen. Right? We were traveling with the entire crew; my husband, daughter 1, son, daughter 2 & myself. So can you imagine what our day was going to be like? LONG! So, being the brilliant Mama that I am. I Began to create a plan. A plan that made sure that we didn’t lack any essentials while we were away from our abode. Here’s what I packed: Clothes- an extra change of clothes for almost everybody. You never know what might happen! Cooler-Gatorade, water, juice & ice. Smaller Cooler bag- sandwiches & chicken. Yep! Chicken! If you want to know if chicken is good? Eat it cold! If it’s good when it’s cold, that’s some good chicken! Blankets- (3) Barney Blanket, Large blanket & a bedspread. We were going to be out there all day. Baby girl needs a nap! By all means I wasn’t going to let a Basketball game get in the way. Snacks- Snacks [...]

Motivational Monday September is National Coupon Month. I myself have began to use coupons but somehow always seem to get off track. I thought this would be the opportune time to seek some advice from a fellow Blogger friend who’s coupon website I visit often if not daily. Stacie from The Coupon Sista will help motivate us to save money we continuously throw down the drain. Be so kind to help me welcome Stacie, The Coupon Sista! Don’t forget to stop by her blog to see all the savings she shares. Thank You Stacie for sharing these great tips with us!!!! The Coupon Sista Motivates us for National Coupon Month Many people have used coupons at one time or another. However, some choose not to because of the stigma that sometimes goes along with it. In the past, coupons have been seen as only for poor people. This is an unfortunate way of thinking. If you’re not using coupons, you are simply throwing money away, and now a days, who can afford to do that? You may be thinking,”I know, Coupon Sista, but it seems to complicated and I don’t know where to start”. Well, that’s [...]

Happy Monday! Happy Motivational Monday! We’re in our first week in August and time continues to not wait for us. My motivation this week is to get my closet organized and completed. Over 2 months ago (cough cough) the rod in my closet fell down and I’ve been avoiding it’s mass destruction since. This really is a good time because now I can decorate the entire bedroom. However, I have to start with this closet. Here is my plan: 1.Paint closet 2. Have husband install the closet organizer (this is the tricky part) LOL 3.Go through all the clothes that were in the closet and minimize it by half.(cough cough cough) You see I didn’t say shoes or purses. 4.Put everything back in closet. 5.Replace closet doors with new doors. 6. Lastly, I need a creative idea for my purses. Many are in totes but there are quite a few that aren’t. I’m open for any suggestions. As you can see I have some work to do. Is there anything you have to get done this week or that you may have been putting off? Let’s get motivated and get it done. NicoleNicole is a wife, mother of 3, CEO [...]

Grrrr! Sorry about the growl. Hope you all had a Wonderful Holiday weekend. We had a lovely time until our neighbors continuously pop fire crackers and M 80′s. I enjoy our City fireworks and other beautiful display of the fireworks. However at what point do people begin to respect their neighbors and not pop those stupid things after a certain hour. This is the first year we’ve ever heard this much noise. Sounds to me like we have new neighbors in the hood and right now I’m tempted to pick up the phone and ask Police to do some noise control around here. Did you see any fireworks over the holiday or were you the one making you neighbors cringe on the inside? LOL NicoleNicole is a wife, mother of 3, CEO & hairstylist living in Suburban Illinois. Well, my motivation is television! My motivational thermometer went to about a 99.9 while watching the Cetics vs. Lakers game. JESUS! Jesus Shuttles Worth/Ray Allen! Then there’s Uno Uno Big Beast(Baby)Davis, Rondo and Kobe. I know Kobe is on the other side but I admit he’s a beast! These dudes give me motivation because they continuously increase their skill, talent and ability in the game. My tempertaure continued to rise and no Tylenol or Motrin will be prescribed for me. After watching Kate plus 8, I’ve just began to be thankful for all that God has continued to do for me and my family. This week I will: Motivation 1. Continue to increase my skill, talents and ability in my endeavour 2. Continuously be Thankful to God for all that he continues to keep together in my [...]
