Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Panic attacks & therapy for my soul

Verizon Wireless Mom Voices Disclosure

Panic Attack
Just imagine my face the other day when I’m trying to upload a picture to Instagram and I see this screen.

image
My first initial reaction was to panic, then I got a hold of myself, turned off the phone and removed the battery. After putting the battery back in and turning on the phone, the problem was resolved. Woop! Woop!

Around Me
Last week I went to Indiana the next state over, which is literally a hop, skip and a jump from me. Had a little time to waste and needed to know what was around me…..

image

I installed the around me app and was able to see what was in the nearby area. Found a nice consignment shop and went to see what they had in store. I’ve used this app before on other phones and I usually install it as needed in order to not take up too much space on my phone.

Over Indulging

When I say over indulging… I mean overdosing. I’ve been overdosing on Pinterest. Searching vintage cookware pins, vintage pyrex, corningware and everything else that my grandmother couldn’t pay me to take of hers a year ago.

See my little modest vintage cookware collection. If anyone asks what will I do with all of that? I’ll reply, “the same thing you do with more than 1 pair of shoes in your closet!” Guess I told them!

Lately everything I see associated with my childhood, my grandmother or mom’s cooking utensils, has so much sentimental value. All the memories flood my mind…and I can’t help reminisce.

One thing I did receive from my grandmother a few years was an afghan from her mother and we’re not sure if she made it or if it was given to her. My great grandmother passed in 1979 and that was when my grandmother inherited the afghan.

Now, I have this treasure and it’s possibly older than me or as old as me. Well, I search Pinterest looking for similar patterns hoping to get some history. Nothing yet, but I have seen similar colors. As well as, searching the vintage cookware. I have boards for it.

That’s the FUN I’ve been having with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 lately. Actually I think it would be considered more of a therapy for my soul. Do you use your smartphone to research?

Marriage & The Family: 5 Loving Remedies for Homesick College Students

image

The title should read: 5 loving remedies for a mom who’s sick because her child left for college. 🙂 Time heals all wounds.

1. Social Media, Social Media, Social Media: Thank God for social sites like Twitter, Facebook (the kids have migrated from there), Instagram and YouTube. Although you can be hundreds of miles away, seeing daily updates or pictures posted gives you a feeling of not missing out on what your college student and your family are experiencing. The joy I feel when my daughter likes my post on Instagram or vice verse. So many times I’ve commented on a picture and my daughter will in return call me laughing and we begin to elaborate.

2. Txt msgs: I’m a lover of txt msging. With so much going on with my daily routines and activities, spending hours on the phone is impossible. Random good mornings, WYD, guess what just happened keeps you and your college student connected throughout the day or when time permits.

3. Care Packs: I haven’t went care pack crazy, but the pleasure I get sending my daughter care packs, gives me that ooey gooey mama feeling way down on the inside. Picturing her face when she opens the box and sees pop tarts, gum, laundry detergent etc., warms my heart.

4. Phone calls: txt msging is convenient, stalking her Twitter stream is cool, but hearing her voice puts my heart at ease as I discern her feelings and emotions. Mamas can hear, fatigue, hunger and any other emotions our kids may be feeling without looking in their face. You know… silence often means trouble. How many times have you uttered these words, “YOU’RE TOO QUIET IN THERE! WHAT ARE YOU GETTING INTO?! Sure enough, you enter the quiet filled room and your child is covered in Vaseline!

5. In YO FACE: Skype, YouTube and Facetime are the visual networks we can use to confirm our discerning or put our hearts at ease. Whenever I’m unsure of what I’m hearing in her voice, unclear status update or a vague txt msg, I’ll tell her to Skype me. Then, I’ll conclude…Oh, she’s tired, homesick or maybe she just had a long day. More importantly, I get to see her lovely face 🙂

Everything I touched on above keeps your relationship with your college student intact. These aren’t only helpful to you as a mom, but you could never imagine how much this love you’re showing to your child helps ease his/her homesickness.

Feel free to expound or add to any of the above that has helped you, your child and family with the transitioning of your child leaving home and going to college.

Who Needs Bond Money When You Have Social Media

Daughter screams, “YES TWITTER JAIL BABE!!!!!!!!!!!”

I look on with utter amazement. Realizing my daughter has high expectations, not!

1 WEEK PRIOR

We all hope our children become everything their heart desires, but when you hear your child plotting in wee hours of the morning…….

Daughter: I’ve never been to jail. I want to go to jail.

Listening(ease dropping) from the other room. More like one of those Threes Company moments. When what you’re hearing is really not what you’re hearing.

She comes to my room and asks one of the 101 questions that I’ve prayed she’d never ask. (DUN!DUN!DUN!DUN!) “Ma, have you ever been to jail?” My palms begin to sweat. Drops of blood fall from my face. Scared to look up because she may look in my eyes and know the truth. As I begin to open my mouth I think of how this can make our mommy daughter relationship stronger. Before it can flow from my lips, she interrupts me and says, “I wanna go to #twitter jail.”

If I’m Real Still They Won’t See Me…

th_wiiOh!  I need my Mama Remote(press pause).  If I’m real still….. they probably won’t see me……………

Kids are on Christmas break.  The Wii is out of it’s hiding place & it’s been GAME, ever since.  If you know anything about me, I don’t play games!  Don’t poke me, don’t ask me to join your MAFIA!  Please! Please!  Don’t start a STUPID pillow fight.  Anywho!  My family has been complaining about me not playing with them(rolling my eyes).

Now, my husband started it all.  He says, “Why y’all don’t mess with your Mama?  Why I don’t get off easy?”  I say, “SHUT UP!  You like playing games!(rolling my eyes)”  When he’s not working you can find him playing his PSP or Playing Pool on his IPOD.  You see, he’s right in his element.  So, why he gon put me in the middle?  So, maybe if I sit over here…… real quiet they won’t see me.  You know how they get all game hoGGY?  Don’t wanna share?  Let this be one of those days.

I know!  I know!  I’m gonna tell-em,  “I’ll only play if, I get to play for 2 hrs, by myself and can’t nobody play with me ( Just tried it and my hubby looked at me like I was full of something)!”

After these messages I’ll be right back……………………

O.K.  It’s not working.  Maybe I’m not being still, enough.  O.K, maybe it’s some life lesson I’m suppose to be learning right about now?  Nope!  Don’t feel like learning.  I know what I’ma do…….  I’ma do just anything, press any button & I’m not gonna care if I loose!  YES!  In your FAACE GAMEBOY!  Oops, Do you think that’s beWiivable?

I guess it’s like when I ask them to put up the dishes and they do a half baby bottoms job?  Or when I ask the hubby to complete the “Honey” DOOOO list,  you know the rest of that story.

O.K. O.K.  I’m going to be a good sport(rolling my eyes).

After these messages I’ll be right back……………………

Yes! Yes!  I won!  My 14 pts. to my sons ZERO!  In the begining I was acting real STUPID( my daughter was looking at me like, yeah right. rolling her eyes).  I learned how to play stupid when I noticed, my husband would play the game so I could find him some socks…..  Back to my story.  All I did was press the “A” on the remote.  DAH!  I’d keep asking, “Is it over yet?”  “No… MA, 20 more minutes.”  “Is it over yet?”  “No… Ma, 10 more minutes.”  I get to my last touch down and my hubby says, “If you get this touch down you can quit!”  All I could think in my head is, I’m about to WORK this MAMA REMOTE!

Woo Hoo!  I won! I won!  Now take this STUPID REMOTE.

I Don’t Play(rolling my eyes)

MAMA
