College Bound

2 days before my oldest begins an awesome journey. I’m wondering why no one told me how hard this was going to be. For the next couple days I’ll be wearing my sunglasses around the house. When I begin to sniffle, I’m going to blame it on my allergies.

I cried today…..

image

and yesterday
and last week
and the week before that
and that day I was left in the hotel room while she hung out with her new college team mates.

10 days and counting
before I cry again or sooner (like right now) well, actually 10 days before I lament, ball and cry some more all while trying to keep it together.

My daughter leaves in 10 days to begin  summer school at her new school and Mamas’ gonna need a support group, tissue and all that I can muster up to avoid looking as if I’m at a funeral.

As I dwell in my pity party….I promise to remove anyyyyyyBODY!!!! And everrrrBODY that attempts to crash it! 🙁

Season Ends In A Disappointing 3rd Place :-/

Many may say, “how can you be disappointed when you made it downstate?”  When your team loses to the same team 3 years in a row, there’s a problem.  Last year we can honestly say that the opposing team was stronger and had a greater skill set.  This year…..a team with only one senior and the rest underclassmen…not to mention you have a 11 point lead with less than 2 minutes on the clock and you lose.

Another poor coaching strategy, my daughter was taken out the game the second year in a row!!!!  Last year the same thing happened.  He took her out the game and didn’t put her back in.  This year, he put her in and took her out repeatedly.  Total BS!  I honestly think he was paid off, someone has something on him or he had money on the game.  The past 2 years my daughter’s presence on the court has been the key to her team getting downstate.  If, she didn’t play during the super sectional games, they would not have made it down state!  She played in every single game except for when she was out with a concussion and when she was out, her team lost 2 games.  How and why would you play a player every game & when it really counts and they want to be a key component in you winning, you sit them out?!

Whenever our daughter has been treated unjustly we try to focus on what she’s suppose to learn from the situation.  I believe the only way to grow in life is to learn from every possible situation.  However, this may take us a while to understand.  We’re thankful that she has a bright future ahead and now she can prepare for college.  And Coach can go down in history as the worst coach ever by not being able to get a first place after going downstate 3 years in a row :-/!  And another thing! I told my daughter don’t take another cookie and any award ceremony you will not attend!  Yep, I said it!

Back to Back to Back

image

The Lady Hawks pulled it together after a very tough first half.  They went into half time trailing 20-13, which has never ever happened!!! So big ups to their opponents on defense. They had is worried.

After half time I saw the fury in my daughter’s face and was hoping the fury converted into making it happen.  Although they were behind going into the second half, they kept their opponent’s star player at 4 pts. the entire game!!

They played in this exact gym last year with the exact same obstacles. Again they came out with the “W”.  Friday they will be playing downstate in the IHSA Semi Finals, meeting the same team they played two years in a row for the State Championship, who they lost against and took second place both years.

However, there’s something this year that’ll be slightly different and I’m hoping its to their advantage.  My daughter had the opportunity to play with majority of their opponents team players during the summer.

The first year they were beat by this team, there was a player on the team with such a contagious spirit that you couldn’t get mad at their skills.  So, when we began to consider where we were going to send her for summer league this past summer, I thought…wait a minute!  Whose coaching them?  I did a little research and BAM!!! I found the coach of majority of the players and that’s who she played with during the summer.  Remember that girl with the contagious spirit? Her father was the coach 🙂 Score!

It was a sacrifice for us because it was a long drive to practices and games, but in the end we were happy we sent her there. The coach was able to help our daughter become a player with multiple skills and not just rebound under the basket.  He gave her the confidence to shoot on the outside and work on her 3pt shot.  Whereas, a previous coach (cough cough) would tell her, not shoot or that she couldn’t shoot. Smh

When our children are aspiring to do something we must be willing to look at those that do it well and allow our children to be trained up under them, if it’s possible. Even if it means sending them to the enemies camp 😉

A funny thing happened yesterday, I received a txt msg from a friend. It was a pic of  girl and the caption said, “Jahmia’s opponent on Friday.” The girl had on a sweatshirt exactly like my daughter, so I showed the pic to my daughter and she said, “That’s ——– she was on ——- with me this summer”! How did you get that pic?” I told her, “So and so’s son plays basketball with her brother and they’re at his game now.” She said, ” OMG its a small world!”

So, if I don’t post anymore this week, I’ll be back next week with the results.
