Warning: any spelling or grammerical errors…..over look them It’s cold here in Chicago and I only leave the house if necessary. Thought it was time for me to post this week. If you’ve noticed I haven’t been posting as frequently on here as usual and I have good cause. The reason I started this blog in 2009 was because I was in the process of having another site trademarked. I thought it would be a good idea to join the online blog community to see what was up. Since this sit was done first, because I was able to do it myself and in the meantime I was wasting my money…..I mean paying a designer to complete my other site. Help Mama Remote became priority. That was not part of the plan. After my other site went through all the challenges of trying to build off of what I thought was a wonderful idea and dream, I had to re-evaluate the concept. The site platform sucked and it was a pain in the rear. I finally got around to counting my lost and switching it over to WordPress. Along with many other changes that needed to be made. At the [...]

Me: (looking like… WTFrenchtoast) Yesterday my daughter’s basketball team went to see our very own Chicago Sky WNBA basketball team play against the Atlanta Dream. Our team lost by 3pts, but at the end of the game my daughter and her team were yelling to the players, “good game!” Tamera Young threw her wrist bands to them. My daughter caught one and another player caught the other one. The last picture is of her new letterman jacket.
Ya heard?! Thank you Jesus!!!!!!! Do you sense the excitement in my post? Of course you don’t. This week my kids will return to School. My oldest is a senior (I’m getting teary eyed). My son is in 5th grade & this year he didn’t have to go to summer school to pass. I’m just excited to get back in the swing of things. If all works as planned (unless I regress to my teenage rebellion), me myself and I will return to School in October! How the hell did that happen?!!!!!!!! I’m still trying to figure this one out! Cause after I finally got my Good Enough Diploma (GED), with the exception of Cosmetology School, I vowed to Neva!!!! Set my behind in another class chair again. However, I’ve changed. I think (wink). I’m also scared. Yep scared. I just said, “God, if you want me to go….please make a way. If you don’t I’ll make like I’m in highschool and ditch my dream :-/”. It’s amazing how our lives take soooooo many different turns, curves, back roads and bumps. Especially, when you know where you wanna go, but not really. Know how you can get there, but not [...]

The first day of school is approaching & getting kids physicals & sports physicals are mandatory. Last week I called to make an appointment for my daughter’s sport’s physical and was notified that insurance companies are no longer covering sport’s physicals and we would have to pay out of pocket. Of course there’s nothing I can do, but pay. However, I thought it was a bit sad that they’ll no longer pay for something that benefits our kids. With childhood obesity on the rise along with other childhood diseases that are the side effects from it. Participating in sports keeps children active, fit, out of trouble and I can go on and on about all of the benefits. But….. they feel that this isn’t important to be covered under insurance!!!!! I shake my head in utter amazement! Has anything changed with your health insurance lately?
Today seems so much like Saturday! Just a little change in my schedule has me feeling this way. Any who. I was talking to one of my clients about the Taste of Chicago, an annual fest that happens in downtown Chicago. We were debating on if we would go this year. I’m thinking, NOT! I haven’t been in YEARS! When I was a little younger my girlfriends and I would go every summer. More than one day to be exact. The Taste starts the week before the fourth. Booths are set up allowing you to taste food from all the different restaurants in Chicago. They also have an area where Artist perform. So, we would always go the weekend of the fourth. That’s when I didn’t mind crowds, walking and dodging mishaps. This weekend I’ll chill at home & check out our City’s fireworks that they have on the fourth. A few years ago they would display them at our park nearby. We would be able to sit in our driveway and watch. It was convenient because if you didn’t live in the area finding a parking spot was a battle. However, they built an outdoor Amphitheater a couple years [...]

I don’t know about you, but at my mature age I’m scarred of thunderstorms. We’ve had thunderstorms the past two nights and they’ve been so violent and loud. Loud enough to wake me up. The other day when we took the kids downstairs to safety, the rain and wind was whipping the side of our house with such force, I just knew a tornado was close behind. Last night I woke up because of the thunder. I woke up my husband saying, “you hear that? You hear that!” He said, “yeah” and continued to snore. Is it me or have you noticed the storms being fierce and more violent than years past? Or have I decided to become afraid of thunderstorms at the age of 38?
her shoes are on the wrong feet This picture was taking a year ago when my daughter was 2. I can’t believe how much she has grown physically & with her development. She is a character all by herself. The words that come out of her mouth make us take a second look at times. I remember when she was barely talking & she told my oldest daughter that she had an attitude. My husband & kids had to look to see if it had actually came out her mouth. There are some phrases I wish she didn’t know like, “what the hell?” Oops…. That’s my fault! Since I try my best not to curse I may say hell to get my point across. Don’t judge me! Or, “idiot!” Oops again. I say that when I’m driving. That’s better than teaching her about the middle finger, right? OK. Maybe not, but I’m not perfect. Cut me off and that may be the words you hear coming out of my mouth (in my Chris Tucker voice). Trust me I’ve come along way. My oldest daughter had another choice word. If she dropped her bottle she would say, “SHIT!(In her little baby [...]

Growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandma. This grandma was my father’s mother and many people thought she was my mother’s mother. Usually, grandchildren are around their mother’s side of the family more than the father, where I’m from. Any who, my grandmother and I were really close, even to this day. She took me to New York when I was a couple months old. Wherever she traveled, I traveled. My grandma was from Missouri where she walked miles to school, picked cotton and learned many life skills to survive. Although I didn’t get to pick cotton (Thank God) with my grandma, one thing I did get to do was go fishing. The main event of the summer for my cousins and I was going fishing. A couple days before we went fishing, after a good rain, we would have to go pick worms. With flashlights in hand we would search out our bait. After we found enough worms they would put them in a foam cooler and store them in the refrigerator until we went fishing. Although I enjoyed fishing, I lost interest quick. After fishing for a few minutes my cousins and I would get bored and [...]

itching for a scratch Do you all remember Calamine Lotion? I remember my mom rubbing this on me when I was a little girl. If you looked at me I’d break out in hives. The other day I took my daughter to the park and due to the heat & her sweating, she broke out with heat bumps. I asked my husband to pick up some Calamine Lotion. I was praying it was still around because I couldn’t think of anything else that would soothe her skin without knocking her out. I remember when this happened to my oldest daughter. She was outside riding her bike & from the heat she broke out and her eyes swelled like she had been in a fight with a pollen tree. Since I can remember I’ve suffered with allergies. When I was in 5th grade I began to receive a series of allergy shots. My first initial visit the doctors gave me an allergy test. It consisted of 90 shots! Yes! 90 freakin shots! 45 in each arm. Let me explain, they didn’t actual shoot me. They pricked my skin 90 freakin times! Then they dropped the medicine(like trees, grass etc.) on the [...]

Warm weather seems to ignite my taste buds. The taste for ribs, potato salad, spaghetti, turkey, corn on the cob (am I making you hungry) & the many salad varieties we create. Growing up, summer holidays were a time of feast! Getting together with family & playing with my cousins that I hadn’t seen in months was always the best part. Being the only child could sometimes be a bit Booooring! Last year I started barbecuing turkey legs instead of ribs. Oh my gosh! They’re so delicious! As the warm weather ignited our taste buds. A couple weeks ago the weather was nice & we decided to bust out the grill. When my husband turned it on it didn’t work. So, I stand there with marinated turkey legs & no grill. UGH! While my husband was at work the other day he text me saying, “go get me a grill!”. What! Dude that’s like you sending me to get a car! That purchase will have to be a joint effort. So you see, before I can indulge in some tasty barbecue, we need a grill! What’s your fondest childhood memories that happened during this time of the year?
Sorry if this brings back dirty memories! Did you ever sit in the bathroom wondering what in the world was this pink rubber bag? What does my mom do with it? If, I took a survey right now. Name one thing that you had in your bathroom growing up and you always wondered what it was? The top answer on the board would be, this pink mysterious bag! I can’t remember asking what was it! I’m sure I wouldn’t have gotten an answer. Or………. My mom would have given me her famous line, “We’ll cross that bridge when you get to it.” I’m so glad I never got to it! EYK!!!!!!!!!!
If this is what it means to get old…. I’m in trouble! What was I saying? Oh, I remember now. The number of times that I enter a room and don’t remember why I’m there is really beginning to concern me. It’s almost to the point where every step I take, I should rehearse why I’m going where I’m going. Or tie a string around my finger. But wait, I’m sure I’d forget why it was tied around my finger. Maybe I can walk around the house with notes tucked in my bra. Write myself a note, where I’m going and what I need to do when I get there. Kinda of like when your Mom would send you to the corner store. She gave us a note with everything we needed to bring back on the list. Pulled her money out of her bra. All awhile thinking, “I don’t want that sweaty money!” Whenever I heard my Mom say, “What did I come in here for?” I thought, wow she’s getting old.
Why did they do that to me? Many of us learn recipes from our parents or grandparents. Even if they haven’t taught you personally how to make it, we’ve learned how to mimic the flavors. Or actually remember some of the ingredients they’ve used and followed their patterns. While reading one of my favorite Bloggy friends, Mom of the Perpetually Grounded’s post about chicken and dumplings, I began to think of some of the things I ate growing up but wouldn’t want to eat them now. The chicken and dumplings, I remember my Grandma cooking them often and it was good! However that was one meal that I never tried to make since I’ve been grown. I think it had a lot to do with her rolling out dough, slicing nice neat strips & placing them into a pot, which turns into this perfect dumpling. Just so intimidating! That’s why I don’t bake cakes. When you see me baking a cake on here, you know the girl really think she’s domestic. I’m not saying I won’t! I’m just saying I don’t, now. I was tempted with the idea of making a Dora cake for my daughter’s birthday but that urge quickly [...]
