Is it Common for Love to Persevere?

Monday is here once again and after a weekend filled with Mom’s, parties and celebration, I can’t be more motivated to start a new week.

To start my week off, I’ll be in a Mom Blogger Conference call with Phylicia Rashad. “Claaaaiiiiiiire!!!!” (In my Bill Cosby voice) If, you’re not aware of who Phylicia Rashad is… then maybe you know her by Claire Huxtable? If you don’t know her by Claire Huxtable? Then, you have to be about 10yrs old (lol). Growing up, we ran home every Thursday night to watch The Cosby Show! It was the first  T.V show of a successful Black family.

This Friday May 14th Just Wright will be in movie theaters, featuring Phylicia Rashad, Common, Queen Latifah & Paula Patton. Phylicia Rashad is playing the role of Common’s mother. The previews I’ve seen, Common gets injured and possibly not able to play ball again, Queen Latifah commits to helping him rehabilitate.

My husband and I were watching a game on T.V.   Spurs against the Suns, now, don’t think for a minute that I know everything about Basketball or I think I know.  However, when I watch a game, I see more than basketball. I see my life, my struggles and my victories.  Steve Nash, was playing with stitches over his eye. He literally was playing with one eye shut.  I started talking to my husband about the perseverance that Athletes have. He said, “that’s what you do when you’re doing something you love.” Then I began to think about all the people and things that I love….

In life we all have a role to play. It may be the Mom of an Athlete? We may be the one that commits to helping someone rehabilitate  from injury? Sometimes the role we play isn’t a nice one. There are times I can be a bit selfish and if I don’t get my way, I’m OUT! No matter what role we play, it MUST be Common for Love to Persevere.

Technically, she’s not 6’3

Technical Tuesday

Technically she’s an athlete

Not technicallyjala jahmia
My oldest daughter is 15, plays basketball, volleyball, runs track and over night, she grew 2 extra inches.  Which now makes her 6’3.  Well, technically she’s not 6’3.  Like I said before, give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.
Technically she’s an  investment

Basketball season has come to an end.  Last week she started playing Basketball with a traveling Basketball team.  My husband and I both agree, this is an expensive a great investment in her future.

Technical advantages

She’s playing with 6 girls taller than her(that’s not the whole team), she gets extensive college level training, they pray together, they are told how good they are and they are also told when they’re playing like a High School-er (if that’s such a word).

Technicality

Back to the technicality.  During practice they were given a choice to choose there height,  within reason.  She’s at the most 6’1 1/2.  So, her choices were 6’1 to 6’3.  She chose the latter.

So, you see technically, she’s not 6’3.

Congrats Ladies!!!!  My eldest daughter is getting ready to go down state with her High School Varsity team.  My daughter is a Sophomore, so, this past season she played with the Sophomore team.  When her season was almost up, she was invited by the Varsity coach to play with the Varsity team for the rest of their season.

So now, we’re here.  They have made it to the final FOUR!  She’s so excited & I’m excited for the girls.

This isn’t the first time she’s had the privilege to play in the finals.  Her 8th grade girls team also made it to the final FOUR then to the final TWO.  Sadly they lost( cheating refs). They were devastated! They couldn’t understand how adults could be so unfair.

My big girl is packed and ready to roll.

Stay tuned for the update on their stats.

Ladies! SHOW EM WHAT YA WORKING with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proud Mama
