KOHL Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago

I was invited to visit the Kohl Children’s Museum. All opinions in this post are my own.

Are We There Yet

Recently my family and I were invited to visit the Kohl Children’s Museum here in the Chicagoland area. Now, we set out to go and spend the day there with our youngest daughter and we didn’t let her know where we were going until we got there.Literally she didn’t know where we were going until she read the museum sign and even then she was still a bit confused.

Imagination Run WILD!

The Kohl Children’s Museum is filled with exploratory, imaginative and stimulating activities for children of multiple ages.My only regret is not bringing along one of my daughter’s friends so she can have someone to join in on all the activities they had there for the kids.

The first place Jala explored in this indoor museum was the Adventures in Art center.

Art in Adventures

Located in the art center was a large variety of art supplies and stations in the center where they can create their very own art masterpiece. Jala made a birthday card to send to her big sister in New York.

Our next stop was the SpotHero Car Garage where Jala was able to go through a car wash simulation and play at many other automotive stations.

SpotHero Car Garage

We had only visited two of the centers and we already knew getting her out of this place was going to be a problem. This girl was on 10 and keeping up with her excitement as she was torn between which exhibit to go to next.We visited ever single exhibit in the Kohl Children’s Museum and there were many:

Adventures in Art

All About Me

Baby Nursery

City on the Move

Cooperation Station

Habitat Park

Hands On House

Nature Explorers

Pet Vet

Play Café

Powered by Nature

Ravinia Festival Music Makers

Sheridan’s Books & Crannies

SpotHero Car Garage

Turtle Rock

Water Works

Whole Foods Market

and more…

But I want to share the two places Jala spent most of her time. Like staying long and going back after she visited every exhibit. One of those exhibits was Whole Foods. It was so funny because as she walked pass this pay phone it began to ring and this was her face wondering who was on the other end. LOL

Whole Foods

This kid shopped til she dropped!

The second exhibit that we spent the most time in was the Play Cafe…..She was able to pretend she served us lunch at the cafe, clean and work the register.

Play Cafe

If you’re interested in attending the Kohl Children’s Museum it’s located at 2100 Patriot Blvd. Glenview Il., 60026

Although summer is almost over, I think it’s a great place to take the kids before they go back to school to stimulate their minds for the upcoming school year. With exhibits like Sheridan’s Books & Crannies the kids can take a break, sit back and read any of the multiple books they have there. As well as, you can get some ideas on how to create a reading area in your own home before the school year begins.

Sheridan’s Books & Crannies

A couple exhibits that will help encourage your child’s STEM learning this school year is the Science + You Exhibit and the Water Works Exhibit.

Science + You

Water Works

If you and your family visit the Kohl Children’s Museum this year or in the future, you will definitely enjoy it and leave a comment below if you have already visited the museum.

Lila & Eve: Netflix StreamTeam Pick Was So Good I watched It Twice

I’m a happy member of the Netflix Stream Team and the opinions in this post are my very own.

When I realized my favorite girl, Jennifer Lopez was in this movie, I should have known this was going to be one my favorites.   Every movie Jennifer Lopez is in seems to make my Chick Flick list and I’m sure it has a lot to do with her natural acting talent.  After reading the info on the movie:

Two distraught mothers, whose children were gunned down in a drive-by, team up to avenge their deaths after local authorities fail to take action.

I thought what better movie to watch especially with it’s relevancy as the murder rates  in our city continue to climb.  On the other hand it would help give a bit of insight and shed some light on the pain mothers deal with after losing a child to murder.  Living in our world today it’s so easy to become desensitized to the tragedies others are dealing with and unless disaster comes knocking at our front door, we careless who’s door he’s knocking on today.

Disclaimer : after watching the movie I’m not sure If this would be a good movie to watch for a mother mourning the loss of a child.  Needless to say, a love one, friend or neighbor of someone that has loss a child and looking to support them in their loss this is a must see to help you understand the pain of a the one grieving.

Now, I know this wasn’t an episode of How to Get Away With Murder and honestly I’ve never seen a single episode, but the way Viola Davis played her part in this movie right here… she gets an Oscar from me!  I watched this movie once and I was not expecting the outcome. At. All!  I totally spoiled the entire movie for my husband because after watching it, I had to tell him about it and not leave out any details.  As I would not expect, after epic spoiler alert, hubby wanted to watch it with me.  Surprisingly, I saw many details I missed when I watched it the first time.  As well as he was able to help me understand the ending better.

If you’re looking to see a good movie this weekend with girlfriends or your spouse, check out Lila & Eve!  You will not be disappointed one bit and if you really want to watch something.  Do one of my numbers and watch it twice! Bwahaha  Lila & Eve has made my #1 Netflix Movie so far this year.  Now, let’s see what movie with top it.

Marriage and The Family: Brookfield Zoo 2014

I think the last visit we took to the zoo, I was pregnant with my youngest.  Brookfield Zoo was on our schedule for this week’s summertime family outing.

image

Last week I picked up passes from our local library.  The passes covered two people, my husband and I.  So, we only had to pay for my son and daughter.  The forecast said rain all day, but it only rained the night before and on our way there.  The weather was beautiful.  Not too hot and not too cold.

This little fella right here put on a branch swinging show.

You don’t go to the Zoo often, right?  However, Jala was attracted to this.

image

Really?  We can go here anytime.  We had a good time with a lot of walking.  I fell asleep on the way home! And took a nap when we made it home.  I was wore out!

Any summertime fun family outings on your family’s agenda this week?

Birdwatching: Baltimore Orioles

A couple weeks ago I saw the prettiest orange and black bird feeding from the hummingbird feeder.  The bird was too big and was having a hard time staying on the feeder.  I posted a blurry pic to instagram asking about a large hummingbird.  My IG friend Brandi & blogger at dontdisturbthisgroove… told me it was a Baltimore Oriole.

image

image

This picture below is so funny how he tries to hang on the feeder.
image

After knowing what kind of bird it was I began to do some research on them.  There was at the time a male and female gracing me with their presence.  I ran out and bought an Oriole feeder.  Which they cared less about because they continued to use the hummingbird feeder.  That’s when I read to make sure the hummingbird nectar is fresh or hummingbirds can get sick if it’s not.  Now the nectar I had in the feeders was from last year’s nectar that I had stored inside.  So, I went to get fresh nectar and then…. they didn’t like it anymore.  That’s when the Orioles began to drink from the Orioles feeder.  After changing it the female has been the only one to return. The male has not been seen for over a week.

Also, I read that they love oranges.  I ran out and bought some oranges.  Now,  the oranges are a hit for the female.  She comes by about 3 times a day.  Fills up on oranges and nectar.

image

Can’t wait to see how long she hangs around. She’s been here for about 3 weeks now. Have you seen the Baltimore Orioles in your yard and if so, what have you noticed about them? What they like to eat and how long do they stay around?

Raised beds down under… again

Just when I began to smell Spring in the air…

This happened.

Yesterday was the first day in months that we saw our grass again and the patio was clear…

Then this happened.

I’m on the inside looking out and I’m over calling it pretty.  How’s the weather where you are?
