What’s in Our Picnic Basket #LoveandMarriage

My husband and I had it all planned out. Drop the kids off at Vacation Bible School and head over to the park for a little quality time together for a picnic. As soon as we dropped the kids off it began to pour down raining. This  lead us to putting our creative skills to work.   Head home and enjoy our picnic on the Living Room floor.

We were determined to have a picnic. LOL

Marriage & The Family: Dealing with Life’s Disappointments

There’s Joy in the Midst of Disappointment

Hearing my kids laugh these days brings me unspeakable joy.  Playing a video game together or alone, watching Vine videos or laughing at each other, are the things that make my kids Laugh Out Loud.  Actually, Roll on the Floor Laughing.

Focus on the Good

Who doesn’t enjoy hearing their children laugh?  Of course we all enjoy hearing them laugh, but sometimes I tend to take those things for granted.  I take many things for granted. Many. MANY.  But when you get a whack upside the head with life’s disappointments, you begin to draw from the unspeakable joys in your life.  You know those things we take for granted and don’t speak of? Yeah, that.  Sounds a bit cliche, but what better way, to not focus on all that’s going wrong in our life and to focus on the good God is allowing us to experience in the those times of disappointment.

Draw Close to God & Relearn

These past few years, my life has taken some twists and turns that I didn’t expect and I surely didn’t see them coming.  After I balled my eyes out, felt sorry for myself, nearly broke into pieces…. well, I think I did break into pieces.  Tiny bits and pieces.  I had to draw closer to the One that knows me and loves me more than my difficulties, than my circumstances, than my let downs and broken dreams.  I had to seek God to relearn His will and purpose for my life.  Yep, I had to relearn.  Sometimes you can get knocked down so hard that you’ll forget your own name.  Forget your purpose. Forget everything God has pulled you out of and know that He’s able to do it again.  And He will.

After recognizing that there’s joy in the midst of disappointment when we focus on the good that is continuing to take place in our life.  Drawing closer to God will help give us the direction we need in this season.  This will allow us to see the vision God is trying to show or restore in us and what he’s trying to teach us.  There’s always something to learn and we need to continue to learn from the true Teacher.  He loves us and wants us to know the will He has for our life.  Let Him show us in the thick of our disappointments.

Marriage:10 ways to say, “I told you so.” without saying, “I told you so!”

The pleasures of marriage

There are a multitude of pleasures in a marriage union.  However, a greater pleasure in saying, “I told you so.”  When our spouse may not agree with what we believe regarding certain situations.  All the same, we know that saying, “I told you so.”  to our spouse is like saying, “Yo Mama!” to your enemy.  What if, we could say, “I told you so” without actually saying “IT”?

The not so I told you so

Here goes 10 ways to say, “I told you so!” without saying, “I told you so.”

  1. Remember what I said?
  2. I said this was going to happen.
  3. That’s why I didn’t think that was a good idea.
  4. You think I say stuff to be a nag.
  5. Do you recall us having this conversation?
  6. Well, I told you what I would have done.
  7. That all could have been avoided….
  8. *blank stare*
  9. I don’t even…. want to talk about it.
  10. You must have been getting advice from the guys/ladies in the Barbershop/Salon.

The pleasures of friendship

If my husband or I had a dime for every time we’d like to say those words?  We’d probably be well off by now.  I’ve learned through my 14 years of marriage and so has he that we can actually take one another’s advice and trust that we are looking out for one another’s best interest.  One of the pleasures of marriage, as we grow together… Is that we form a friendship.  A friendship that I can be brutally honest with my husband and he can be brutally honest with me about those situations and circumstances.  Are we perfect? No!  Do we get it right every time? Absolutely not! Of course timing can also play a crucial part in this as well.  Oftentimes, unless my husband hits me in my gut with truth, I tend to take his advice for granted.  I’m sure you can relate.

So, what’s your favorite “I told you so,” without saying, “I told you so.”

Disclosure: No marriages were harmed in the making of this post.
