Spring Outdoor Living Space Collab- Whimsical Herb Planter

Last week I participated in a Spring Outdoor Living Space Collab and since our weather outside is so fickle, I had to create something for my outdoor space.A friend tagged me in a Facebook post with some beautiful artwork. There was pictures of outdoor wall art of faces and behind the wall art was floral flowers or trees growing that made the image look like hair was growing from the head.

I began to think of ways that I could implement this idea in my outdoor space.Starting off with an old vintage pew seat, I had my husband draw a beautiful image on it and I used craft paint to color the image.Next, I added a flower pot on the back that I will add some herbs too and as it grows it’ll appear as hair is growing from her head.

Check out the video below to see how it turned out.

Pre-Spring Garden Clean-up

The Weather Outside is Delightful

The weather in Chicagoland is DELightful!!So we had a chance to get out and enjoy it by cleaning up the garden beds and I cleaned up some flower beds too.Thankfully I did do a little fall cleanup so, that made this pre-spring cleanup easier.Of course there’s still lots more work to get done, but getting ahead start gets us ahead of the game.

So Much Done
We’ve also got ahead start on our gardening plans as well.Checking our seed supply, making a list of things we’ll need to begin gardening this spring and setting our gardening goals.

It Took A Beating
Although we’ve had a wonderful winter our greenhouse took a beating. We’ve lost nearly all of the top window panels with the exception of two of the small window panels. We were hoping to find some sort of plexiglass to replace them, but the prices were astronomical.Since we purchased our greenhouse it has went down to almost half the price. We darn near can buy another just by replacing the windows from the manufacturer, but we have to replace them. Last year I added some chicken wire around the bottom of the greenhouse to reinforce the panels. Our wind here is high and I was chasing panels on windy days, but since I’ve added the wire we haven’t had any blowouts on the bottom panels.Once the top panels are replaced we’ll add the wire there too to keep them in place.

Has the weather been beautiful in your area and has it inspired you to begin preparing for gardening season?I know we’re not out of the woods, but having the preliminaries out of the way will make things a breeze.

End of Spring Garden Tour 2015 (Video)

Summer is soon approaching and I wanted to take you for the last Spring Garden Tour of 2015.  We’ve been getting plenty of rain and cool days.  It’s finally warming up during the day and cooler nights.  This has made it easy for our cold weather crops to take off well.  The lettuce, Swiss chard and greens look amazing.

I’ve had to make sure I incorporate a lot of salads, lettuce wraps, greens and Swiss chard in our meals.  Sunday I made a Swiss Chard Tartar Sauce and today I made Spaghetti Squash with a Turkey & Swiss Chard Sauce.  Creating new recipes with vegetables from the garden is so fun to do.  Oftentimes, we get so stuck with making the same meals over and over again.  However, to make eating and food enjoyable for our families we have to allow our creative juice to flow.

While taping this Spring Tour video I couldn’t help, but laugh at myself not being able to identify some of the plants.  Then I thought, that’s why they create plant identification tags, right.  There’s nothing wrong with not knowing the type of plant you’ve planted when it’s in it’s before producing fruit state and of course there are those that we can identify with our eyes closed.

Here’s our End of Spring Garden Tour 2015 embedded below.  Thanks in advance for watching.

Home & Garden: Operation Yucca Facelift Complete

image

Adam is looking a bit attractive 😉  I finished cleaning up the dead leaves this morning and now I have two more that are in need of attention. Hopefully I can have them done by the end of this week.

When summer hits, I want to chill and enjoy the view.
