3 Football Movies on Netflix That’ll Encourage Your Student Athlete #NetflixStreamTeam

Our kids will return to school soon, if they haven’t already and if your child plays football they may have already began practice sessions.  For me there are a few ways that help motivate me for strenuous tasks and I will certainly consider football strenuous.  Often times, watching a movie that’s encouraging, motivating or reflects life difficulties help get messages across to our children that verbal words for parents, kids just don’t get.

Over the past couple weeks my son and I have been watching football movies to help motivate him for the upcoming season.  Although I’m listing 3, there are numerous movies related to football on Netflix, but here’s the 3 Movies I want to share with you.

23 Blast

Life takes a complete turn for Travis Freeman when this student athlete contracts an infection that almost ends his high school football career.  With so much going for Travis, after this infection leaves him blind he becomes depressed and nearly gives up on life.  When Travis’ coach thinks he can still play for the team despite being blind, Travis has to overcome his fear of failure.

Woodlawn

Who’d think that a football team can use some hope, love and reconciliation?  Well, that’s exactly what the Woodlawn High Football team needed.  Myself being born in the early 70’s and not knowing the racial tension that was taking place in America.  Tony Nathan was in the heart of this racial tension and had to overcome it on and off the field.  One thing for sure, Tony had parents that were rooted and grounded in their faith and raised him to trust in God.

Gridiron

This one here is a different type of inspiration….  That’s what I call it.  Don’t get me wrong, it can and will inspire your student athlete that’s on the right path.  However, if you’re looking to motivate a teenager that may not be an athlete, headed in the wrong direction or a child you’re concerned about.  Gridiron is a good one!

The Rock, plays a juvenile detention counselor, that gets fed up with the lifestyle pattern the kids take after leaving the detention center.  The pattern of release, death or returning to the detention center.  The Rock starts a football team with the youth in the center with a goal to help build their self esteem, self control and hope.

These are all great movies to sit down with your teenagers and watch.

Netflix Stream Team April’s Pick- Rev Run’s Renovation

I’m a member of the Netflix Stream Team. The opinions in this post are my very own.

This month I watched a wide variety of movies and shows on Netflix.  I started off searching for Apocalyptic movies and began the month with, Left Behind.  After watching, Left Behind I watched a couple episodes of, Revelation Road which is another Apocalyptic style show.  However, so far there are only two episodes on Netflix and I was certainly hoping to see more after watching the first two, but that was all they had on there so far.

*Drum rolllllllllllllll*

This months Stream Team Pick!  Rev Run’s Renovation.  When this was airing on television I’d always miss it.  I did happen to catch a couple episodes, one when they renovated their daughter Mylie’s room and another that I can’t think of at the time.  Rev Run’s Renovation is my pick of the month because this was a binge show for me.  One that I curled up with some Butter Pecan ice cream and let each episode play one after the other.

A few years ago when, Run’s House was on T.V I’d watch episode after episode and repeat.  Loved the show!  I Enjoyed watching their family and any show that I can watch with my kids is a win win.  So, I was happy to find out that they had another show. If you’re anything like me and enjoy home improvement shows, you’d enjoy this.  Run and his wife Justine are in the process of renovating their home, room by room.  Not only do you get a chance to see them handle their disagreements over the different projects, but you also get to see the renovation process.I totally love the fact that they’re not buying a new home, but renovating what they have.  Although I know these project budgets are nothing to sneeze at.

What have you checked out on Netflix this month?  The weather is beginning to warm up in many areas and do you have a different appetite for a different type of movie during warmer months?  I seem to lean more toward renovation and garden renovation type shows in the summer months and romantic, chick flick type of movies during the winter.

Unlikely Animal Friends and Their Symbiotic Relationships: Netflix StreamTeam

I’m a member of the Netflix Stream Team and opinions are my very own.

Unlikely Animal Friends

My youngest daughter Jala has an extreme love for animals. Never thought the word extreme could possibly be an understatement, but when it comes to Jala and animals, she loves them. She thinks ugly animals are cute. Like a possum. UGH Recently, I’d taken a liking to some stray cats frequenting our yard. So, I was feeding them on a daily basis and it gave me such pleasure. However, I thought it was strange that the cats only came at night to eat. I’d seen them a couple times during the day, but it wasn’t often.

One night I hear my son screaming. He runs down stares looking as if he had seen a ghost and could barely tell me what he saw. I followed him upstairs and there you have it. Looking out the back door my daughter Jala saying, “He’s so adorable.  Can we keep him?” The reason the cat food was mostly being eaten at night… the possum was the one coming by to eat the food. That put an end to me feeding stray cats, but if Jala could have her way, we’d still be feeding the possum.

With that being said, our Netflix Pick of the Month of March *drum roll* Unlikely Animal Friends. There’s no surprise that Jala would pick this series. For one she loves watching series type shows and two she’s the one that taught me about symbiotic relationships.

With a world indulging in such evil and hatred, Unlikely Animal Friends is just what’s needed.  You get to see the benefits of diverse relationships with animals as well as, seeing the significance and importance of those relationships.  Many of the episodes are great to discuss with our children on how there are beneficial and non-beneficial relationships in our lives and helping them know the difference.

We just finished up one week of Spring Break here and if your children haven’t had their Spring Break yet, on a chill day, check out Unlikely Animal Friends.  You won’t be disappointed.  Well, while I was browsing through Netflix I noticed that Parenthood is on there.  Loved that show and now I can binge.

Who’s got dibs StreamTeam box contents?

I’m a member of the Netflix Stream Team. Opinions and remarks are my very own.

Arrived home today from the kid’s doctor’s appointment and my son spotted a package at the door. He gives it a shake, “It sounds like legos!” Jala responds, “I got dibs!”

image

To our suprise Netflix sent some goodies and both were able to enjoy them. One 87 pcs set Lego BIONICLE and one 191 pcs Lego Friends Birthday Party set.

image

Jala has been a fan of legos for a few years now and putting them together is now a breeze.  These are probably the only instructions our children follow.

image

My 15 year old swiftly put his together too. He doesn’t play with his when he’s done. Think he just enjoys admiring what he built.

Spontaneous fun kept them busy this afternoon and for Jala well into the evening.  She also turned on the new episodes of Lego Friends on Netflix while she played.

Are your kids or grandkids Lego fans?  You ever stepped on a few of those peices they forgot to put away?

Fuller House on Netflix – Stream Team

I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team. Opinions are my very own.

Don’t you just love reminiscing on the television shows you watched as a child? I definitely do, and I love when Netflix brings back the flash of the past.

Fuller House aired on Netflix this Friday. I cuddled up with my little New York and let the episodes roll.

Now, the first 5 minutes I spotted Pyrex and before the show was over I spotted three different Pyrex bowls. Alright, alright, I’ll stay focused.

fuller house

If you were around in the old days… 1987ish. You’d remember the television show Full House. Danny Tanner, his brother in law and his friend helps Danny raise his three daughter’s after his wife died in a car accident.

The show has returned and now everyone is grown up and the second generation has all moved back into the Tanner house. Including DJ’s friend and her daughter. Fuller House is a funny show and I enjoyed the episodes I’ve watched so far. I was glad that I sat down to watch them first before watching them with my youngest daughter because there was alot of inappropriate content for kids. I’d definitely advise parents to watch it alone first so that they can make the proper judgement call before watching it with any of your young children.

Although I was disappointed that Fuller House wasn’t a family show, I was able to enjoy plenty  laughs with the exception of the sexual innuendos and some other content I believe, if left out, the show would have received 5 stars from me. My personal opinion is… If, a television show has children under age, there shouldn’t be any sexual content included at all.  So, have you checked out Fuller House yet on Netflix and if so, how do you compare it from the original shows?
